South African youth have come out in strong defense of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, warning billionaire Elon Musk that any attempt to silence or challenge him will face resistance.
The message, which has gone viral on social media under the hashtag #HandsOffMalema, follows Musk’s recent criticism of Malema and his political stance. The tech mogul, who was born in South Africa, has previously expressed concerns over EFF policies, particularly regarding land reform and nationalization.
Youth Mobilization Against Musk
A coalition of youth organizations, activists, and Malema supporters has condemned Musk’s remarks, accusing him of meddling in South African politics. “Elon Musk is trying to discredit our leadership and undermine the will of the people. We will not stand by while he uses his global influence against Malema,” said Thabo Mokoena, a youth activist from Soweto.
Some groups have even called for a boycott of Tesla and SpaceX products, urging Africans to support homegrown businesses instead.
Musk vs. Malema: Political Tensions Rise
Musk has been vocal about his opposition to radical policies in South Africa, particularly Malema’s calls for land expropriation without compensation and economic transformation. In a series of social media posts, Musk warned that such policies could harm the economy and drive away investment.
Malema, known for his fiery rhetoric, has dismissed Musk’s concerns, stating, “Elon Musk does not dictate South Africa’s future. The youth of this country will decide.”
A Growing Political Divide
The escalating war of words between Malema’s supporters and Musk underscores the deep political divide in South Africa’s economic future. While some view Musk as a patriot concerned about his homeland, others see him as a wealthy outsider trying to influence domestic affairs.
With South Africa heading into a crucial election year, the tension between the two figures is expected to further polarize debates on economic justice and foreign influence.
For now, Malema’s supporters have made their stance clear: “If Musk wants to take on Malema, he will have to face the youth first.”
