The President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama has on 28th April, 2025 launched the “Adwumawura” a flagship initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship in Ghana.
Speaking to party faithfuls, youth and institutional groups at the launch in the Ashanti Region at Prempeh Hall said, beneficiaries would be drawn from youth groups, rural communities and youth in affected galamsey areas, youth in conflict prone areas to prioritize them to create their own business.
The Adwumawura Programme is designed to create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 businesses annually, with a strong focus on empowering young people aged 18 to 35. Beneficiaries will receive comprehensive assistance, including skills training, mentorship, access to start-up capital, and equipment.
The initiative, he noted, will reduce Ghana’s employment rate and contribute meaningfully to the global economy. The Adwumawura will be fully founded by government which was highlighted in 2025 budget presented by the Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson in parliament of Ghs 100 million.
The programme is designed to be inclusive,designed to be youth-led, designed to be Ghanaian own and so, you must be a Ghanaian so as to benefit. The programme, he stated further, is designed to benefit everyone regardless of your education background, Adwumawura will create decent and sustainable jobs for young people,
Mr. Mahama contended further that, 60% of beneficiaries would be drawn from women and girls in male dominated trades’, persons with disability, and will also be drawn from unemployed and underemployed youth across the country.
He explained that, after selecting your business, the Adwumawura will not leave beneficiaries to their own thing, but will continue to advise them till their business is grown.
President Mahama said, the Adwumawura will holds exhibition programmes for beneficiaries to showcase their products. “Adwumawura programme is a platform for the youth, its an opportunity to create,to build and to lead”.
He however employed the rank and file of Ghanaians, especially chiefs, religious leaders and our communities, he employed them to unite with his government to build a country where no youth would be left behind. It will be prudent to partner with government to support transform the country.
On the part of the President, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Lawyer George Opare Addo, also addressed the gathering, urging young people to take full advantage of the programme to build a brighter future for themselves and the nation.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to empowering the youth and creating an environment where entrepreneurship can grow.
The Adwumawura Programme, he said, marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s efforts to confront unemployment and position the youth as key drivers of national development.
