In the third round of the African Champions League group stage, Esperance Tunis will face Egypt’s Pyramids FC this Saturday at the Hammadi El Agrebi Stadium in Rades. Both teams are tied with four points, each having secured one win and one draw in their opening matches.
Esperance’s head coach, Laurențiu Reghecampf, addressed the importance of the match, stating, “Our last Champions League performance fell short of expectations. We’ve analyzed it thoroughly with our players. There are no excuses; we simply need to perform better. Playing at home gives us a significant advantage, and tomorrow is our chance to make a statement.”
Meanwhile, Pyramids FC, which began its campaign with a win against Angola’s Sagrada followed by a draw against Mali’s Djoliba, is determined to showcase its potential.
Goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy acknowledged the challenge, saying, “Esperance is a highly experienced team in the African Champions League. Although we are relatively new to this level of competition, we have proven our ability to face tough challenges in African football. I hope we stay focused and deliver a strong performance.”
Esperance secured a victory against Djoliba in their opener and drew against Sagrada in their second game. A win for either side in this crucial match would propel them to the top of the group and edge them closer to the knockout stage.
However, Pyramids will be without key players, including top scorer Feston Mayele, Blatty Touré, and Youssef Obama, all sidelined due to injuries.
The match also marks the first-ever meeting between these two teams, adding to the anticipation of an intense and closely contested battle.
