In a significant gesture of international cooperation, the Government of the Republic of Korea has
presented twenty-two (22) KIA vehicles to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration as
part of its commitments to support Ghana in its preparations towards the hosting of the 2023 United
Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting from 5th to 6th December.
This generous contribution underscores the long-standing partnership between Ghana and Korea in
promoting peace and security on the global stage. The 22 KIA vehicles include (twelve)12 saloon
vehicles and ten (10) vans.
The presentation was made by Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Ghana, H.E.
Jung-Taek Lim, on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration. The
Ambassador expressed his country’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s efforts in hosting the
Ministerial meeting, “Ghana and Korea share a strong belief in the importance of maintaining global
peace and security. This contribution of vehicles is a testament to our shared commitment to this vital
cause,” Ambassador Lim stated during the official handover ceremony.
H.E. Jung-Taek Lim reaffirmed the Government of Korea’s readiness to further deepen cooperation
with Ghana in the United Nations and other international fora. The Ambassador was of the hope that
the vehicles coupled with the Information Technology (IT) products which were presented in July this
year would assist Ghana to host the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meetings Conference
successfully in December.
The 2023 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting is anticipated to bring together high-
ranking officials and ministers from various nations to discuss critical issues related to international
peacekeeping efforts. The event provides a platform for collaborative dialogue, strategic planning, and
the exchange of best practices in the realm of peacekeeping operations.
On her part, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey,
who received the vehicles on behalf of the Government of Ghana, noted that “the occasion symbolizes
the strength of the relations between Ghana and the Republic of South Korea and further underscored
the importance Ghana attaches to the longstanding friendship”. The Minister expressed gratitude to the
Government of Korea for extending support to Ghana in its preparations towards bringing the entire
peacekeeping community into the country. Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey took the opportunity to commend
Ambassador Lim for his role in securing Korea’s support for Ghana for the upcoming 2023 UN
Peacekeeping Ministerial Meetings in December.
