The president His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has today, 21st March 2025, launched the Tree For Life Reforestation Initiative at Nkawei in the Atwima Nwabiagya South of the Ashanti Region.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of Nkaweiman, reaffirm his government commitment to curb illegal mining revealed that an LI 2462 has been laid before Parliament and when the bill is matured in 21 days, no one including the president will have the power to allow mining in forest reserves. This, he said, is a historic steep towards protecting our lands and forest reserves.
This milestone is a testament to government commitment to ensure a sustainable forest management. Ghana, he said, remains committed to achieve its sustainable development goals.
The Tree For Life Reforestation Initiative is about hope, resilience, and sustainable future for the next generation to come and we must all committed to contribute to the success of mother Ghana.
Mr. Mahama announce that, Ghana is reported to have been lost 60% of our forest reserves since 1950 to date. Additionally, 44 out of 288 forest reserves have been invaded by illegal miners…while nine of these forest reserves also identified as hotspots as no go areas.
His Excellency, the president however tasked the and sundry especially students to plant trees around their schools.
On his part, the minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel kofi Armah Buah
