Ghanaian police have arrested Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a former colleague and close associate of slain investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, for allegedly leaking sensitive photographs of Suale to a politician before his murder in January 2019.
Koranteng, who had reportedly fled to the United Kingdom after Suale’s assassination in Madina, Accra, was apprehended at a salon in Amasaman-Adease upon his return to Ghana.
Police sources indicate that Koranteng’s name had surfaced in ongoing investigations into Suale’s killing, which remains unresolved. Authorities believe his release of images of the journalist to a politician could have played a role in exposing Suale’s identity and movements before the fatal shooting.
Suale, a key member of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ investigative team at Tiger Eye P.I, was shot multiple times by unidentified gunmen while driving in Madina. His death sparked international outcry over press freedom and safety for journalists in Ghana.
Koranteng is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Officials have not disclosed which politician allegedly received the photos or whether further arrests are expected.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to bringing all individuals linked to Suale’s murder to justice.
