In line with the president of the republic of Ghana, H. E, John Dramani Mahama’s directives to celebrate this year’s Independence Day in a moderate manner, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amonkobene, led by the Military, Fire Services, the Police and, SHS school students have used the day to embark on massive clean-up exercise within the principle street of Alaba and Manhyia catchment areas.
Speaking to the media during the exercise, the minister reiterated on the president commitment to ensuring the public peers are protected. Hence, it is neccessary for the region to use the opportunity to clean the city.
The regional minister cautioned store owners, especially the Alaba community to ensure those transport waste from their homes and dump in gutters to aviod being coming in confrontation with the laws. Stressing, store owners are key stakeholders in the fight against clean sanitation and their contributing in combating this agenda in paramount. However, he employed them to voluntarly support the government to bring good sanitation to their door steeps or risk facing the laws.
“Plans would be implemented to stiffen the sanitation laws to safeguard indiscriminate dispose of waste.
He lamented on the availability of enough dust bins as a factor that contribute to the uncleanness of the city and admitted to lace out with zoom Lion and KMA to provide enough dust bins for areas that need them. For ensuring sustainability and effectiveness of this exercise, he charged stakeholders, Zoom lion, KMA, individual groups and the community to support the agenda.
