The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has dismissed reports of growing agitation among workers over alleged politically influenced promotions, stating that all advancements have followed due process.
This comes after media reports suggested that recent management decisions including the rapid promotion of certain individuals within three months of their engagement had caused discontent among employees. Some workers claimed that these promotions were politically motivated and unfair.
However, in an official statement, GACL management categorically denied the allegations, clarifying that all promotions adhered to established protocols, including departmental recommendations and panel evaluations conducted by representatives from the Public Services Commission and relevant professional associations.
GACL Defends Promotion Process
“All promotions at GACL have been conducted in strict adherence to established protocols, including thorough evaluation by panels comprising no fewer than six members,” the statement read.
GACL further noted that interviews for promotions were conducted between May and July 2024, and appointment letters were issued between August and September 2024. The company emphasized that promotions were merit-based, citing the advancement of 109 Aviation Security Personnel in 2024, many of whom had served for over 15 to 20 years without previous elevation.
The statement also addressed specific claims:
- Felicia Edem Attipoe has not resumed post at GACL since January 2025, contradicting reports of her recent promotion.
- Gideon Grumah’s promotion to Director, Commercial Services, was approved in 2023—before the appointment of the current Managing Director, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare.
- Allegations that some staff were elevated to top management positions within three months were labeled false, with GACL insisting that all promoted staff had served for extended periods.
- Eric Nartey Yeboah’s appointment followed due process and was approved by the GACL Board after an official interview.
Commitment to Transparency
GACL assured the public and stakeholders of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and operational excellence, stressing that no promotions were politically influenced.
“We remain dedicated to a fair, merit-based advancement system for all staff and will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism,” the statement concluded.
