Beijing has announced a fresh wave of tariffs on U.S. imports in response to Washington’s latest tariff hike, escalating trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
The new Chinese tariffs, revealed on Tuesday, include a 15% duty on coal and liquefied natural gas, alongside 10% tariffs on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large vehicles, and pickup trucks. These measures come just days after the United States imposed a 10% tariff on Chinese goods over the weekend.
The latest move follows President Donald Trump’s Saturday announcement of sweeping tariff increases targeting major U.S. trade partners, including China, Canada, and Mexico. The administration has framed these tariffs as a punitive measure against countries it claims have failed to curb the flow of illegal migrants and narcotics into the United States.
As the trade standoff intensifies, businesses and consumers in both nations face growing uncertainty, with potential repercussions for global markets and economic stability.
