Buenos Aires, Argentina – Thousands of Argentinians took to the streets on Saturday in a mass protest against President Javier Milei, following his controversial remarks at the World Economic Forum last week.
During his speech in Davos, Switzerland, Milei dismissed feminism, identity politics, and climate activism as forms of what he called “sick wokeism.” He further claimed that in its “most extreme versions,” gender ideology amounted to child abuse.
Protesters, draped in rainbow-colored flags and holding banners reading “Rights are not negotiable,” rallied against what they described as an attack on social progress and equality.
Milei’s Policies Spark Backlash
Since assuming office, Milei’s government has abolished the Ministry of Women and introduced sweeping economic reforms under his “chainsaw plan”, which seeks to liberalize the economy and cut back on workers’ rights.
Critics argue that his aggressive deregulation agenda disproportionately affects marginalized communities and threatens hard-fought civil liberties.
Saturday’s demonstrations signal growing resistance to Milei’s policies and rhetoric, with activists vowing to continue their fight for human rights and social justice.
