Former President Donald Trump has issued an executive order mandating that flags at federal facilities fly at full staff on Inauguration Day, altering the protocol established by his predecessor.
Previously, President Joe Biden had directed flags to be flown at half-staff for 30 days following the death of former President Jimmy Carter on December 29.
Under Trump’s new directive, flags will return to half-staff following the inauguration and remain so until January 28, marking the conclusion of the official mourning period for Carter.
The decision reflects Trump’s approach to balancing national traditions with a focus on the symbolic significance of Inauguration Day.
