Saint Vincent College of Education to reopen following resolution of leadership dispute

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the reopening of Saint Vincent College of Education after resolving a leadership dispute with Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama. The institution had been closed due to tensions over the appointment of a new principal.

In a significant meeting at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of GTEC, and his team reached an amicable resolution with the Ya-Naa. Following the discussions, it was announced that the college would resume operations by Wednesday, January 22.

“I want to assure the public and stakeholders in tertiary education that the issues have been resolved, and normalcy should return to the institution by tomorrow,” Professor Abdulai affirmed.

Addressing public concerns, Musah Yakubu, Public Relations Officer for the Ya-Naa, emphasized that the closure was a temporary measure aimed at restoring calm and enabling dialogue.

“His Majesty wanted to ensure peace so he could engage with the Director-General of GTEC. The discussions have now been successfully concluded, and everything has been resolved. We are hopeful that Saint Vincent will resume its operations as planned,” Yakubu explained.

The reopening marks the resolution of a contentious issue that had disrupted the institution’s activities. Stakeholders in tertiary education are hopeful this agreement will foster a harmonious and stable environment for learning at Saint Vincent College of Education.
