Aaron Rodgers became the fifth player in NFL history to throw 500 regular-season touchdown passes during the New York Jets’ 32-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The milestone was reached with a 5-yard pass to Tyler Conklin in the second quarter, giving the Jets a 7-6 lead.
Rodgers, reflecting on the achievement, likened it to his days in Green Bay, saying, “It was kind of like old-school red-zone touchdown like we did for so long in Green Bay where a play breaks down, move up in the pocket, guys keep working.”
The touchdown placed Rodgers in the exclusive 500-touchdown club, alongside legends Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539), and Brett Favre (508). His performance on Sunday also pushed him past Matt Ryan for seventh place on the NFL’s all-time passing yardage list.
Rodgers added to his record with three more touchdown passes in the game, bringing his total to 503. Notably, his connection with Davante Adams for a touchdown marked their 83rd score together, surpassing Dan Marino and Mark Clayton for the third-most touchdowns by a quarterback-wide receiver duo.
Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich praised Rodgers’ performance, calling him “one of the greatest that has ever played this game.”
As Rodgers, 41, contemplates his future, he expressed a desire to return to the Jets next season, though his decision will come after a period of reflection in the offseason. The Jets, undergoing significant changes in their management, have yet to decide on their plans regarding Rodgers’ potential return.
Rodgers’ future remains a point of speculation, but his historic achievement cements his legacy as one of the NFL’s all-time greats.
