Black Connect to Receive 2024 ABA Louis M. Brown Select Award for Legal Access on September 26th

Black Connect’s Small Business Legal Services Program named by the American Bar Association Standing Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services as the winner of the 2024 Louis M. Brown Select Award for Legal Access.

Black Connect announced today that its Small Business Legal Services Program is the winner of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) 2024 Louis M. Brown Select Award for Legal Access (the “Brown Select Award”).

The Brown Select Award for Legal Access is presented annually by the ABA Committee on Delivery of Legal Services to programs and projects that advance access to legal services for those of moderate incomes in ways that are exemplary. The nominee that receives the most online votes from the public are awarded this honor.

“I created Black Connect’s legal services program because throughout my legal career I have seen too many Black entrepreneurs on the losing end of litigation because they couldn’t afford the guidance of attorney and litigation can be fatal to a small business,” said Angela Majette, Founder and National President of Black Connect. “I am proud of what we have accomplished over the last five years and this recognition by the public highlights the importance of our work and the need for civil justice reform to help close the racial wealth gap in America.  We are hopeful that acknowledgments such as this will open doors for financial support of our organization.”

Black Connect operates the only national pro bono program that focuses exclusively on business-related legal needs for Black entrepreneurs and small business owners.  In addition to direct legal assistance, the program plays an important role in educating business owners about legal issues that affect business ventures and impact business relationships, and the program teaches business owners how to protect and enforce their legal rights through webinars, small business clinics, and other legal events.
