I Will Unlocking Potential: Transforming Agriculture With Prison Inmates-GUM
The Founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement, Christian Kwabena Andrews has revealed that, when he becomes the president of Ghana coming 2025, he will use prison inmates to unlock potential, transforming the country’s agriculture through farming.
The founder of GUM was addressing journalists and party members in the Ashanti Region when he averred that in recent years, there has been increasing recognition of the need for sustainable solutions in agriculture and to maintain the efforts to improve the sector, when GUM comes to power, his government will facilitate cogent viable initiatives to ensure the pressing issues confronting the growth of the agriculture sector are resolved.
According to him, labour force, logistics and farming inputs are some of the issues facing the sector…hence relying on the prison inmates as a source of the labour force will help boost the sector while creating jobs for the youth.
One of the most pressing issues facing the agriculture sector is labour shortages. Many farms struggle to find enough workers, especially during peak seasons.
Using prison inmates to work as a form of serving their sentences will not only help farmers meet their labour needs but also provide inmates with valuable skills and after finish serving their sentences, they will remain in the sector.
He added it will provide them with an opportunity to learn new skills, gain work experience, and develop a strong work ethic. These skills are not only valuable while they are incarcerated but also prepare them for reintegration into society upon release.
Food that will be produced from the prison inmates will be supplied to our schools and exportation and logically food security will be a thing of the past.
