Chinese President Holds High-Level Meetings with Presidents of Mauritania and Burundi

In a significant display of diplomatic engagement, the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, signed a cooperation agreement with Mauritania and pledged to strengthen collaboration with Burundi on Friday in the latest in a series of talks between visiting African leaders and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the meeting with the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani engaged in fruitful discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest. The talks encompassed areas of economic development, trade partnerships, infrastructure projects, and collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, energy, and technology. The two presidents expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation to the benefit of their respective nations.

In a separate meeting, Burundian President, Evariste Ndayishimiye emphasized the importance of promoting peace and stability in the Great Lakes region of Africa. They discussed measures to enhance security cooperation and tackle regional challenges, including issues related to refugees and internally displaced persons. The Chinese President reaffirmed China’s support for Burundi’s efforts in achieving sustainable development and inclusive growth.

Both the Mauritanian and Burundian presidents expressed their appreciation for China’s continued assistance and investments in their countries. They commended China’s commitment to supporting the development agenda of African nations and fostering South-South cooperation.

In a joint statement, the three leaders reiterated their commitment to upholding the principles of equality, mutual respect, and non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations. They underscored the importance of adhering to international law and promoting unilateralism to address global challenges.

The meetings culminated in the signing of several bilateral agreements and memorandum of understanding between China, Mauritania, and Burundi. These agreements aim to bolster economic and diplomatic ties and facilitate future collaborations in various domains.

The Chinese President’s engagements with the Mauritanian and Burundian leaders signify China’s dedication to strengthening partnerships and promoting regional development in Africa. These high-level dialogues hold the potential to pave the way for deeper cooperation, stability, and shared prosperity between the nations involved.
